History
GLN was founded by a team of church members and officially launched in May 2025. The pilot work started in 2022 using a Six-Sigma methodology out of a desire to understand why young adults' attendance was declining in church. We listened to the voices of an intergenerational team to examine root causes. We looked at spiritual, emotional, social, cultural, and generational factors shaping young adults’ lives. What emerged was not criticism of young people, but a clearer picture of the weight they carry. During this same season, the reality came close to home. A young adult in the congregation lost his mother and quietly began to drift. He was grieving, disconnected, and unsure where he belonged. Walking alongside him helped the church see what the data was revealing: young adults are not disengaged because they don’t care about it. Many are overwhelmed, hurting, and unsure where it is safe to be honest.
By listening, the panel began piloting small ideas — spaces for conversation, creative expression, and relational mentorship. Something shifted. That same young man found himself; a male mentoring group was formed, a suit-up closet was created to help with job skills and resume training, conversation on the couch replaced traditional church, and a few are now assets and leaders in the congregation. Young adults responded when they felt heard rather than managed, when creativity was welcomed, and when faith was discussed without pressure. Gun Violence awareness became a reality in the community. They needed someone to simply walk beside them.
GLN hopes to expand by providing avenues for young adults to overcome barriers that prevent them from thriving spiritually, emotionally, and socially. Then, we will have more success quotes such as this: “This program changed my life. Through their mentorship, I found purpose by working with the church media team, learning skills, and gaining confidence. Today, I am enrolled in community college and excited about my future.
